It's thought that over FIVE TRILLION pieces of plastic are floating around the worlds oceans right now and up to 10 TIMES that is sitting in our landfills. But finally, issues like plastic pollution and the hazards it can cause are beginning to take their rightful place at the forefront of the worlds media.

At Daymark, it's about time we started talking about out green credentials and what we can offer our customers in terms of eco-friendly biodegradable AND compostable materials. But first, we need to clear something up...

What's The Difference?

A BIODEGRADABLE material is defined as a material that will break down and covert back into natural reusable resources within a relatively short period of time - typically within a year. COMPOSTABLE materials on the other hand go one step further. They will decompose into actual nutrients that can be used as compost - like the stuff you put on your garden.

The difference between Biodegradable & Compostable Materials.

However, you can't just class any 'natural' material as Biodegradable or Compostable, To be truly classed as either of the two types the product needs to be EN13432 certified in accordance with the European Union. So before purchasing Biodegradable or Compostable labels that's what you need to look for!
